The Core of Spirituality
May 15, 2010
Know thy self! This has been stated, over and
over, throughout human history on our planet. All the prominent spiritual
teachers have said this in one way or another, and pointed to going within to
discover it's meaning. The problem is, that the truth to be found there is
outside the grasp of the human mind.
The mind considers itself to be spiritual, all
the while entertaining the error that it is a persona separate from God. This
is evidenced by the act of praying to God for anything and everything your mind
can come up with; like praying for prosperity or forgiveness, or deliverance
from evil or even praying for holiness. From this point of view it prays and
meditates and seeks divine wisdom through channeling. But in Truth, this
perception is not accurate. Who we are is not separate from God at all. Who we are, is an aspect of the totality of
consciousness that we think of as God. This consciousness exists infinitely,
inside and outside of the body you call "me", and inside and outside
the bodies of every other being you perceive with the senses, whether it is
part of 3D or otherwise.
To know God is to know your True Nature, your
essence, that which is an aspect of the totality of consciousness. Your True
Nature is the integral, essential energy that gives life to and sustains the
existence of a body, It is not the
body itself. It is also not the "soul" that carries memories from one
body to another. The soul is a memory bank that incarnates into a body at the moment
of birth to provide ego's programming for that human existence. The soul brings
with it the karma, the lessons, the egoic patterns to be learned from, etc. It
also brings all the programming for whatever role the body is to play in its
"life movie". And for its part, when we identify ourselves as the
body, rather than the essence that gives the body life, we mistakenly take on a
false persona. And the story of that body's life experiences, its soul's past
life experiences, and future projections together weave a web of identification
that becomes our trap in the illusion.
The goal of every incarnation is to discover the
Truth of this arrangement (know thy Self), and be free of identification with
it. This Self-knowledge is what allows a soul to graduate from "earth
school" as a Master.
A spiritual Awakening is the realization of who
we really are.
So let me reiterate. We are not the body, we
are not the soul, we are not any of the things the mind believes us to be. We
are Divine consciousness and ONLY Divine consciousness. Divine Consciousness
does not need our mind to guide it, and it does not need our mind's judgments
about any of its creations. All of its creations, including everything that we
judge to be positive AND negative, are to help us get our soul off the wheel of
karmic incarnations.
Who we are is consciousness.
